Description

Acer Spicatum. Most often found as a shrub maple, but can occur in wild as a tree form. Can be trained to either form. Prized for wildlife area rehabilitation as many species will feed on the bark and new shoots. Can be rooted from stems, making it useful (like dogwood) for riparian and hillside stabilization. Stems are brilliant red as newer growth, with stems eventually becoming grey, giving the shrub/tree a 2 toned appearance. Samaras are formed in the late summer or fall, turning from gold to a fine red, as does the foliage making this a fine ornamental. Sold as both plants and cuttings.
