- Red, orange and yellow patched and flecked skin gives the apple its name
- Very cold hardy, at least to zone 3, worthy of trials in zone 2
- Selkirk crab open pollinated
- White, plentiful blossoms make this a nice ornamental as well as a good pollenizer
- Tart, moderate astringency (best used for jellies, sweet and hard cider blending)
- Full vigor, shows resistance to fungal diseases
- Harvest in Walden VT is typically mid- late September
