This space is specifically for species discussion, that defined in scientific nomenclature. For example, malus coronaria and malus domestica are species (g-s) but McIntosh is labeled a variety (or more correctly a cultivar). So, here we would discuss the malus domestica species in general (this being the pool of domesticated produce apple), but the McIntosh chat should be located in the Varieties pages.
