A small weevil, this pest can be very destructive of tree fruits including apple and stone fruits. Can be managed organically but growers need to be diligent. Clay sprays (kaolin) can be helpful in reducing damage but must be kept up. Attack fruit directly. Historically curculio was shaken from the tree and collected in tarps to be destroyed (the insect will drop when stressed as a defense maneuver). This is painstaking but effective.
