Large to very large gold and russeted apple
Heirloom german apple dated to 1885. Originated near the Zaber river (hence the name).
Aromatic, crunchy, and full flavored with nutty notes and some astringency
Cidermakers note that it is considered by some a bittersharp, but is still fine for fresh eating.
Harvest in Walden VT is usually early/mid October.
Cold hardy at least to zone 4. Cedar apple rust and powdery mildew resistant.
Good keeping qualities, average 3 months
