Description
Heirloom Vermont apple. Originated near Bethel Vermont in the 1830s. Name refers to the original tree’s discoverer, but anyone who handles this apple would swear it had to do with the heaviness and very round shape of the fruit. The fruit is red or patched red, with a relatively tough skin. Excellent keeping qualities. Harvest is usually late October in northern Vermont. Strong, medium to vigorous tree. Cold hardy into zone 3. All purpose, but in our opinion is better for culinary use than fresh eating unless it is fully ripe during a long fall in the north.
