Description

Medium to high vigor tree with pink to purple blossoms. Average fruit size is 1 1/2 inches and conic, pale to deep red skin. Flesh bleeds red, and can become fully pink. Leaves often have a purplish tinge, as does the wood cambium. The specimens we are offering are tree sized selections of budagovsky, raised from open pollinated seed here in Walden VT. Fruit is tart and slightly astringent, useful in cider or hard cider mixes. Pink juice.

The original budagovsky trees originated from the rootstock breeding program at the State Agrarian University in Michurinsk, Tambov region, Russia beginning in the 1930’s. The research focused primarily upon strong winter hardiness.
