Description
Russian heirloom apple. Large yellow apple, often splashed with reddish blushing. Originated during the 1700s, was imported into the US in 1870. Very good quality all purpose apple. Skin is thick, allowing for bruise prevention, but means it is most enjoyable sliced rather than out of hand eating. Quite cold hardy (into zone 3) and vigorous. Yellowish flesh. Used extensively also as a rootstock for cold areas, particularly in Canada.
