Description

One of the named antonovka named varieties from eastern Europe. Likely originates from the Ukraine. This is a large green to yellow apple with good, tart flesh. Medium in juiciness. Good culinary use and tart eating. Ripens in northern Vermont in early fall, usually mid to late September. Moderately sweet (12-13 percent soluble solids in the average year). Like most antonovka selections, it is regarded as a fine pie apple. Oxidizes fairly slowly (does not brown rapidly when cut).
