Description

Malus baccata is the preferred apple rootstock for the northernmost regions. There is some indication that it shows incompatibility with certain apples. We have seen no issues, but we tend to graft only very hardy cultivars to it, which often have crabapple in their blood. This seems to be a genetic factor. It will grow well in zone 2. Many Alaskan growers have grown these out as crabs and then topworked later.

Custom Grafting
In addition to grafting the fruit trees we sell, we also offer custom grafting services. We can graft a hard to find cultivar, a reproduction from your own tree, or we can graft onto an existing tree on your property. New trees can be sent right away or grown a year here.
