The support we provide encompasses not only scientific information, but also business and homesteading concerns. Consultations can be tailored to fit each client’s needs.
All consultation services are provided by Todd Parlo, manager and owner of Walden Heights Nursery & Orchard. Todd is a no-nonsense mentor, dedicated to helping people grow healthy food to make a living or to feed their family.
His 30 years of working as an educator, orchardist, nurseryman and organic farmer provides customers with a mentor who has lived experience in all aspects of fruit growing.
Consultations for Non Commercial, Small Scale Growers
We can create an intelligent plan for your future orchard based on your needs, available time and resources. We help urban growers use their small yards wisely and assist new landowners reclaim old orchards or plant new orchards
Basic Consultation with Visit:
The Basic consultation can be tailored to fit each client’s needs, but routinely concentrates on infrastructure, soil and plant science, understanding soil test results, yield projections and other basic orchard skills and includes:
- Site visit to your land (There is no limit to travel distance, but we do charge $1.00/mile for travel)
- Assistance with layout and species/cultivar choices
- Written report assessment and recommendations
- Orchard care and maintenance schedules (may include spray schedules, fertilizing, month to month tasks, pests and disease management)
- Seasonal care bulletins
- A full year of mentoring through discussions, q & a, and supporting materials
- Subsequent years of support can be extended indefinitely.

Virtual Basic Consultation:
This consultation type allows growers from around the world to work with us. The only difference from the Basic Consultation is this consultation does not include a physical site visit.

Full Orchard Mentoring:
This consultation type is intended for those who currently have or are planning a commercial operation or a larger scale farm or homestead. What sets this apart from homestead level packages is a significant increase in the amount and level of professional support.
The Full Orchard Mentoring consult is tailored to fit each client’s farm, but routinely includes:
- Site visit to your land (There is no limit to travel distance, but we do charge $1.00/mile for travel)
- Assistance with layout and species/cultivar choices
- Business advice regarding infrastructure decisions, marketing and other forms of business planning
- Written report (assessment and recommendations)
- Orchard care and maintenance schedules (may include spray schedules, fertilizing, month to month tasks, pests and disease management)

- A full year of mentoring through discussions, q & a, and supporting materials
