Open pollinated Winter St. Lawrence (the male parent has been mentioned as Duchess in some literature) :selected in 1912 and introduced in 1924. Developed in Ontario, Canada by Agriculture Canada. Good for both fresh eating and culinary uses. Comparable to McIntosh in quality. Skin is striped red and can become highly colored. Ripens midseason with good crops. Does not normally require thinning. Tree is cold hardy to -50F reportedly. It is a strong grower tending to upright in nature, and strong. A good storage apple.
