Red fleshed, purple skinned apple. Flowers are purple and tree is therefore a nice ornamental as well. This is a fresh eating apple only for real tart lovers, otherwise it should be reserved for cooking, and particularly fine hard and sweet ciders. Skinless sauces are pink and delicious. Cold hardy to at least zone 3, so a good choice for the coldest climates. Bears early in life. Some publications list this as Almata Crabapple, but in truth a properly thinned tree will produce full sized apples.
